The COLUMBUS MCKINNON m648a-g is a 3/8 inch alloy steel screw pin anchor shackle built for lifting, rigging, and load-securing applications. The body and pin are forged from alloy steel, then heat treated and tempered to deliver a working load limit safety factor of five to one. Size markings in both inches and millimeters are stamped directly on the shackle body, and the working load limit in tons is clearly marked for field identification. This hardware is suited for riggers, ironworkers, and general contractors who require rated lifting and rigging connections on job sites.
Screw pin anchor shackles in this size range are commonly used in overhead lifting, block-and-tackle rigging, towing, and tie-down applications across construction, industrial maintenance, and marine environments. The anchor-style bow provides a wider bearing surface compared to chain shackles, making it appropriate for use with wire rope, chain, slings, and hardware fittings where multi-directional loading may occur.
Designed as a standard screw pin anchor shackle for use with wire rope assemblies, synthetic slings, chain, and rigging hardware in lifting and load-securing applications where a 3/8 inch rated shackle is specified.
Installation and removal should be performed by a qualified rigger familiar with applicable ASME B30.26 rigging hardware standards. Before use, ensure the pin is fully seated and the collar is hand-tight plus a quarter turn — never use a pipe wrench or power tool to overtighten. Always inspect the shackle body and pin for cracks, deformation, or corrosion before each lift. Never exceed the marked working load limit and do not use in applications with severe shock loading without a de-rated load calculation.
