The CLEVELAND C92708 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for precision seat cutting in metal fabrication and mechanical assembly applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tool cuts a 29/64 inch counterbore diameter using a 21/64 inch standard pilot to keep the tool centered and true. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 7/16 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard drill press or milling machine chucks. With 3 flutes and a forward cutting direction, the C92708 produces clean, flat-bottomed seats in a single pass. It is sized specifically for 5/16 inch socket-head cap screws and is suited for use on alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces.
This counterbore is used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments where consistent socket-head cap screw seating is required. It is appropriate for both bench drill press work and manual milling setups. The 6 inch overall length provides sufficient reach for most standard workpiece thicknesses without requiring extension tooling. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tool.
Designed for use with 5/16 inch socket-head cap screws. Compatible with alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits standard drill press and milling machine chucks accepting a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and operation of this counterbore should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained technician. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning the cut, and ensure the machine spindle is at a safe, controlled speed appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter. Inspect the pilot and cutting edges for wear or damage before each use. Always follow the machine manufacturer's operating guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when running rotary cutting tools.
