The CLEVELAND C92706 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for precision counterboring of socket-head cap screw seats in metal workpieces. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tool delivers clean, accurate results in alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The 7/16-inch cutting diameter is matched to 5/16-inch socket-head cap screws, with a fixed 5/16-inch standard pilot that keeps the bore concentric with the existing hole. Three flutes provide efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 7/16 inch in diameter, allowing secure clamping in standard toolholders. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this tool on drill presses, mills, and CNC machining centers.
The C92706 is suited for production and maintenance machining applications where socket-head cap screw counterbores are required in ferrous metals. Typical scenarios include fixture building, machine repair, and fabrication work involving alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron components. The 6-inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard workholding setups. This is a forward-cutting tool and is not designed for back-counterboring. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for use with cutting fluids on the materials listed.
Designed for counterboring socket-head cap screw seats in alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Compatible with 5/16-inch socket-head cap screws. Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard chucks and collet holders accepting a 7/16-inch shank.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists on drill presses, knee mills, or CNC machining centers. Secure the straight shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder before use and confirm the pilot fits freely in the lead hole without excessive play. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Do not use this tool for reverse or back-counterboring operations, as it is a forward-cutting design only.
