The CLEVELAND C92705 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for precise, clean counterboring of holes to seat socket-head cap screws flush or below the work surface. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable performance in alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron applications. The tool features a 13/32 inch counterbore diameter, a 9/32 inch standard pilot diameter, and three flutes for efficient chip evacuation and a smooth bore finish. With an overall length of 5.75 inches and a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank, it seats securely in standard drill press or milling machine toolholders. Forward cutting direction keeps operation straightforward for production and maintenance environments.
This counterbore is sized for 1/4 inch socket-head cap screws and is well suited for machining, fabrication, and maintenance repair operations (MRO) across industrial and job-shop settings. It performs in manual drill press setups and CNC machining centers alike. Typical applications include preparing mounting holes in steel plates, frames, fixtures, and structural components where a recessed fastener seat is required. The HSS construction handles interrupted cuts and lower-speed manual setups where carbide tooling is not necessary.
Designed for use with 1/4 inch socket-head cap screws. Compatible material applications include alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Fits toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance professionals familiar with rotary cutting tools. Secure the shank firmly in the toolholder before operation and confirm the pilot fits the existing pilot hole without excessive play. Reduce spindle speed and apply cutting fluid when working in harder alloy steels to extend tool life. Never force the tool into the workpiece; let feed rate and cutting speed do the work.
