The CLEVELAND C91696 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for machining precise, flat-bottomed recesses that seat socket-head cap screws flush or below a workpiece surface. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool delivers reliable performance in alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. It features a 0.242-inch counterbore diameter, a 0.150-inch standard pilot diameter, and three flutes for efficient chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 7/32 inches in diameter and the overall length is 3 inches. Cutting direction is forward. This tool is suited for machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This counterbore is sized specifically for No. 6 socket-head cap screws, making it a practical choice for general fabrication, fixture building, and mechanical assembly operations where fastener head clearance is required. It performs well in manual drill press setups and CNC machining center applications where a solid-pilot counterbore is preferred over interchangeable-pilot designs. The high-speed steel construction handles moderate cutting speeds across the listed material applications without requiring specialized coolant or coatings for typical shop use.
Designed for use with No. 6 socket-head cap screws. Compatible workpiece materials include alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron.
This tool is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in drill press, milling, or CNC spindle applications. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet before operation and verify the pilot is properly seated in the existing pilot hole before engaging the cut. Power down all equipment and lock out energy sources before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool wear.
