The CLEVELAND C73480 is a No. 52 wire-gauge jobber length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal fabrication and light industrial applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust force on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0635 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard chucks. At 1-7/8 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch flute length, this is a compact, high-cycle bit suited for use on drill presses, CNC lathes, and hand-held power drills. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die techs, and sheet metal fabricators are the primary installers.
This bit is sized to wire gauge No. 52, with a decimal diameter of 0.0635 inches and a diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches, making it appropriate for close-tolerance work. Primary workpiece material is aluminum, though the heavy-duty grade high speed steel construction handles a range of non-ferrous and mild ferrous materials in production environments. The bit meets NAS 907 Type A standards and carries UNSPSC code 23241634. It is sold individually and ordered in multiples of 12.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement bit for applications requiring a No. 52 wire-gauge straight-shank drill in standard keyless or keyed chucks; primary listed workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
Installation is performed by machinists and fabricators using standard drill press, lathe turret, or handheld power-tool setups. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm chuck key removal prior to spindle engagement. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage under side load.
