The CLEVELAND C73479 is a No. 51 wire-gauge jobber length drill bit machined from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. It measures 0.0670 inches in diameter and 2 inches in overall length, with a 1-inch flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank. The 118-degree split point initiates contact quickly and reduces walking on entry. Two regular spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole operations. This is a heavy-duty grade bit built to NAS 907 Type A standards, suited for machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals drilling small-diameter holes in production or field environments.
This bit is rated for primary use in aluminum and is well suited to light-gauge metal fabrication, electrical enclosure work, HVAC equipment assembly, and general mechanical maintenance tasks requiring precise small-diameter holes. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust requirements, which is a practical advantage when working in tight quarters or with handheld equipment. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks without modification.
Designed for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks at 0.0670 inches diameter. Primary workpiece material rating is aluminum per manufacturer specification; suitable for drilling light-gauge metals in general trade and fabrication applications.
Install and remove drill bits only when the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is stationary. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck to the full depth of the shank before operating. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling aluminum to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits that show chipping, deformation, or diameter wear outside the stated tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches.
