The CLEVELAND C73471 is a wire gauge No. 43 jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at the start of a cut. The bit measures 2.25 inches overall with a 1.25-inch spiral flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.0890 inches. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry improve chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. Rated as heavy duty grade and conforming to NAS 907 Type A standards, this bit is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool crib applications where consistent hole quality is required.
The C73471 is well suited for drilling aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials, making it a practical choice for aerospace maintenance, HVAC fabrication, sheet metal work, and general mechanical assembly. The right-hand spiral flute and regular spiral type provide stable cutting action in benchtop drill presses and handheld power drills. Its compact jobber length profile offers good rigidity without sacrificing reach for typical through-hole and blind-hole drilling tasks.
Designed as a standard jobber length drill bit conforming to NAS 907 Type A for use in straight-shank drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC equipment accepting 0.0890-inch straight-cylindrical shanks. Primary workpiece material rating is aluminum per supplier specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using any standard keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for the shank diameter. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and confirm concentricity before drilling to avoid premature wear or breakage at this small diameter. Reduce feed pressure when breaking through the back side of the workpiece to minimize bit deflection. Inspect the cutting edges regularly, as small-diameter high speed steel bits are susceptible to chipping if used beyond serviceable sharpness.
