The CLEVELAND C73450 is a jobber-length drill bit sized at No. 22 wire gauge (0.1570 inches diameter) and manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. It features a 118-degree split point for accurate starting and reduced walking on entry, paired with a web-thinned, tapered web for lower thrust requirements. The regular spiral flute with a 2-inch flute length evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Designed for right-hand cutting, this bit runs in standard drill chucks with no adapter needed. At 3.125 inches overall length, it fits standard jobber-length drill applications on drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power drills. It meets NAS 907 Type A standards and is rated as a heavy-duty grade bit.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though its HSS construction handles a range of non-ferrous and softer ferrous materials in light to moderate-duty applications. Typical install scenarios include sheet metal fabrication, HVAC knockouts, electrical panel work, and general-purpose hole drilling where a No. 22 diameter is required. A straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.1570-inch shank diameter seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks. The bit is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 12 units, making it appropriate for stocking in tool cribs or fleet service vans.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or stocking bit for applications requiring a No. 22 wire gauge hole. Primary workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification. Compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1570-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify the chuck key is removed before powering on. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling aluminum at higher feed rates to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the split point for wear before each use — a dull or chipped point increases thrust and reduces hole accuracy. Regrinding is possible on HSS bits; maintain the original 118-degree point angle and web-thinned geometry when resharpening.
