The CLEVELAND C73436 is a jobber length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and general fabrication applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this wire gauge No. 8 bit measures 0.1990 inches in diameter with a 118-degree split point angle. The split point reduces walking at startup and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional point. At 3.625 inches overall length with a 2.4375-inch flute, it fits standard drill chucks and portable drill presses used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or field settings.
This bit is rated as heavy duty and is built to the NAS 907 Type A standard, making it appropriate for drilling aluminum and similar non-ferrous and ferrous materials at moderate feed rates. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.1990-inch shank diameter seats securely in three-jaw drill chucks. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes consistent chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. It is sold individually and is suited for both bench drill press and hand-drill use in shop or field environments.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.1990 inches diameter; fits portable drills, bench drill presses, and CNC drilling setups configured for wire gauge tooling in the No. 8 size range.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill powered off and, for bench machines, the chuck key fully withdrawn before starting. Secure the workpiece with a vise or clamp — never hand-hold material when drilling metal. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous materials to extend edge life, noting this bit does not support internal coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and discard or resharpen bits showing chipping, heat discoloration, or diameter wear beyond the stated tolerance of -0.0007 to 0.0000 inches.
