The CLEVELAND C73406 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical trade work. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 5/32 inches (0.1562 inches decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 3-1/8 inches and a flute length of 2 inches. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on contact and lowers thrust requirements at entry. The web-thinned, tapered web construction improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during extended drilling cycles. This bit is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 12 units per transaction, making it suited for shop restocking or tool crib replenishment by machinists, pipefitters, and general mechanical contractors.
The C73406 is rated for use in aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though its HSS construction and NAS 907 Type A specification make it appropriate across a broad range of non-ferrous and mild ferrous materials in light to medium-duty drilling applications. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks without adapters, and the regular spiral flute geometry supports both handheld and drill-press setups. This bit is well suited for field service techs and shop environments where consistent hole sizing in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range is required.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1562-inch straight-cylindrical shank, consistent with NAS 907 Type A tooling requirements.
Drill bits of this type are installed and changed by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general mechanical tradespeople using standard three-jaw or keyless drill chucks. Always ensure the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is secured before bit changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to extend edge life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits showing chipping, heat discoloration, or measurable wear outside the stated diameter tolerance of -0.0007 to 0.0000 inches.
