The CLEVELAND C72109 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in production and maintenance applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it carries a standard 118-degree split-point geometry with web thinning for improved centering and reduced thrust at entry. The wire gauge No. 9 size corresponds to 0.1960 inches in decimal. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. At 3.625 inches overall length with a 2.4375-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and drill press spindles without modification. Diameter tolerance is held to -0.0007 to 0.0000 inches, meeting ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
This bit is suited for drilling mild steel, aluminum, brass, plastics, and similar materials in light-to-medium shop and field applications. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks. Typical users include machinists, maintenance technicians, plumbers, and HVAC fabricators who need accurate pilot and through-holes in sheet metal, structural steel, and pipe flanges. It belongs to the Cleveland Series 2002G general-purpose jobber line and is sold individually, though minimum order quantities apply per distributor terms.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, hand drill, or machine tool equipped with a chuck accepting a 0.1960-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank fully into a properly sized chuck before operation and verify the bit runs true before engaging the workpiece. Use appropriate cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling steel to extend tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Operate at speeds appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter — consult standard speed-and-feed charts for HSS tooling. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
