The CLEVELAND C72104 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in production and maintenance applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered-web geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The drill measures 0.2090 inches in diameter, corresponding to wire gauge size 4, with an overall length of 3.75 inches and a 2.5-inch spiral flute length. Two right-hand spiral flutes provide consistent chip clearance. This is a Series 2002G bit built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
This bit suits general-purpose drilling in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials at typical shop or field operating speeds. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC turret setups. It is appropriate for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and electricians performing layout drilling or clearance hole work where a wire-gauge size 4 diameter is specified. The 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio keeps the tool rigid enough for handheld use while still providing adequate chip clearance during deeper passes.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 0.2090-inch straight cylindrical shank, including handheld power drills, bench drill presses, and CNC turret machines.
A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify zero runout before drilling. Secure the workpiece with a vise or clamp before engaging the drill to prevent rotation and injury. Apply a cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Operate at the appropriate surface footage for the work material as recommended by HSS drill speed tables.
