The CLEVELAND C71299 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, it measures 9.4 mm (0.3700 inches) in diameter and 4.921 inches overall length. The standard 118-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust and helps center the bit without a pilot hole. A right-hand spiral flute with regular helix evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole drilling. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople reach for bits like this when drilling sheet metal enclosures, pipe flanges, electrical boxes, and structural members on the job.
This bit is suited for general-purpose production and field drilling where a standard jobber length reach is sufficient. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw drill chucks on corded or cordless drills and drill presses. With a flute length of 3.189 inches and a flute-to-diameter ratio of 4xD, the C71299 handles moderate-depth holes without excessive deflection. It conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards, making it a predictable drop-in for shops and service vans that spec to those tolerances.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.3700-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including corded drills, cordless drills, and drill presses commonly used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a three-jaw chuck before drilling. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation. When drilling ferrous metals, use a cutting fluid or lubricant to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is visible, as a damaged point increases the risk of bit breakage and imprecise holes.
