The CLEVELAND C71277 is a jobber length drill bit engineered for general-purpose metal drilling applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating, it offers increased surface hardness and improved heat resistance compared to uncoated HSS. The bit measures 7.2 mm (0.2835 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 4.291 inches and a flute length of 2.717 inches. A 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip geometry promote clean entry and reduce the walking tendency on flat surfaces. This bit is designed to be installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals who require consistent, repeatable hole quality in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials.
The C71277 is suited for use in drill presses, hand-held power drills, and CNC equipment operating at appropriate surface speeds for HSS tooling. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw chucks without adapters. Its 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip clearance for moderate-depth holes. This bit is a fit for general shop and field maintenance work where a reliable, cost-effective HSS drill is needed across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling equipment accepting straight-cylindrical shanks in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper drill press or power tool operation. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and confirm runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous materials to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Do not exceed the recommended surface speed for HSS tooling in the material being drilled.
