The CLEVELAND C71255 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in professional shop and field applications. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating for surface protection, it carries a 5 mm (0.1969 inch) diameter and a 118-degree standard point angle. Overall length is 3.386 inches, with a 2.047-inch spiral flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1969 inch in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks. A web-thinned, tapered-web point reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. This bit is built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 specifications, reflecting consistent dimensional tolerances for production drilling environments.
The C71255 suits machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and general tradespeople drilling through mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials. Its regular-spiral, right-hand-cut flute geometry clears chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole operations. The 5 mm size falls within the 5.00-6.00 mm range of the Cleveland 2001G series, which covers standard jobber-length HSS bits for industrial and commercial maintenance use. Typical applications include metal fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and on-site equipment repair where a reliable general-purpose drill bit is needed.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit suitable for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling fixtures accepting a 0.1969-inch straight shank.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill motor fully stopped and power disconnected or the tool unplugged. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and tighten all jaws evenly before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat and extend bit life. Wear ANSI-rated eye protection during all drilling operations per standard shop safety practice.
