The CLEVELAND C71214 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastics. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, it measures 1.7 mm (0.0669 inches) in diameter and carries an overall length of 1.693 inches with a flute length of 0.787 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip reduce entry force and help center the bit without a pilot hole. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit conforms to DIN 338, the widely recognized standard for jobber-length drills, making it a reliable fit for production and maintenance work alike.
The C71214 is suited to light-duty bench drill, hand drill, and CNC drill-press applications where small-diameter precision holes are required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks without adapters. It falls in the 0.05 to 0.10 inch diameter range class, a common size band for instrument work, sheet metal, and electrical enclosure fabrication. Machinists, maintenance technicians, electricians, and HVAC sheet-metal workers will find this bit appropriate for pilot holes, component mounting holes, and general fabrication tasks on light-gauge material.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 0.0669-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling machines configured for small-diameter tooling.
A licensed machinist or qualified technician should secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning the cut. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the workpiece material, as overfeeding small-diameter bits can cause breakage. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point shows visible degradation.
