The CLEVELAND C71160 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 60, designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastics. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating for added lubricity and basic corrosion resistance, this bit has a decimal diameter of 0.0400 inches and an overall length of 1.625 inches. The standard 118-degree split point with web thinning reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without modification. This bit is intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and other trade professionals who require precise small-diameter holes in production or field applications.
The C71160 is well-suited for light-duty production drilling, tapping pilot holes, and precision layout work where tight diameter tolerances are critical. With a diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches, it holds size consistently across repeated use. The 11/16-inch flute length and 2-flute spiral configuration provide adequate chip evacuation for the small diameter. This bit conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards, making it appropriate for shops and field operations that require compliance with recognized dimensional and performance specifications.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit in the CLEVELAND Series 2001G, conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards for straight-shank twist drills in wire gauge sizing.
Install in a compatible drill chuck rated for the 0.0400-inch straight-cylindrical shank diameter and tighten securely before operation. Ensure the drill press or handheld drill is powered off and the chuck key is removed before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and wear appropriate eye protection during all drilling operations.
