The CLEVELAND C70348 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-tolerance drilling applications. Built to wire gauge size 44 with a decimal diameter of 0.0860 inches, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows clean entry without a center punch. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for general-purpose HSS tooling. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute, this short-length geometry provides rigidity and reduced deflection in drill press, CNC, and turret lathe setups. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and production operators are the primary users.
The C70348 is suited for drilling alloy steels and aluminum in production environments where screw machine length bits are preferred for their stiffness and repeatability. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification. The 2-flute regular spiral configuration handles chip evacuation in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials at typical screw machine feed and speed rates. This bit is manufactured to ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C specifications, making it appropriate for aerospace and precision manufacturing applications where dimensional compliance is required.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and screw machine spindles accepting a 0.0860-inch straight cylindrical shank. Intended for drilling alloy steels and aluminum per the manufacturer-stated primary workpiece materials.
Install in a properly sized collet or drill chuck and verify runout before production use on close-tolerance work. Secure the workpiece and power down or de-energize the machine before changing bits. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Dispose of worn bits per shop protocols, as HSS tooling can develop micro-cracks that affect dimensional accuracy.
