The CLEVELAND C70320 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built to wire gauge size 16, it measures 0.1770 inches in diameter with an overall length of 2-3/16 inches. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force, making it well suited for production drilling in alloy steel and aluminum. The bright uncoated finish and web-thinned parallel web design allow for efficient chip evacuation in short-stroke drilling setups. This is a heavy-duty grade bit conforming to ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C standards, installed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
The C70320 is intended for screw machine operations, CNC turret drilling, and manual drill press work where stub-length rigidity is required. Its straight cylindrical shank and regular spiral flute geometry make it a direct fit for standard drill chucks and collet holders. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and aluminum. The short flute length of 1-1/8 inches limits deflection, which is advantageous in close-tolerance production environments where hole position accuracy is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine drill bit for standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems used in CNC and manual drilling equipment rated for wire-gauge tooling in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with cutting tool setup procedures. Ensure the drill press, turret, or CNC spindle is fully powered down and locked out before loading or changing tooling. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified clamping depth before operation. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry before each use and replace if chipping or wear is observed.
