The CLEVELAND C70312 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-clearance applications where a shorter overall length improves rigidity and reduces deflection. Built to wire size 8, the bit measures 0.1990 inches in diameter with a 2.25-inch overall length and a 135-degree split point that self-centers on entry and reduces thrust. The web-thinned geometry keeps cutting forces low across alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. Right-hand cut, two-flute spiral design clears chips efficiently, and the bright uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling where coating is not required. Meets ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C standards.
Screw machine length bits are standard in production machining, toolroom, and maintenance environments where a jobber-length bit is too long for the spindle clearance or the workpiece setup. The C70312 is suited for drilling alloy steels and aluminum in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools when a stubby, rigid bit is needed. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. Typical users include machinists, maintenance technicians, and industrial MRO operations running high-volume hole patterns in metal fabrication.
Designed for drilling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1990-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers, benchtop drill presses, and portable power drills in production and maintenance applications.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck and confirm the chuck is tightened before operation. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling alloy steels to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use; a dull split point will increase thrust and degrade hole quality.
