The CLEVELAND C70270 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and minimizes the need for a center punch. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration lowers cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation. At 23/64 inches (0.3594 inches decimal) in diameter with a 3-1/16-inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and screw machine setups. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.3594 inches in diameter with a shank length of 1-5/16 inches. This bit is sold individually and is intended for professional machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople.
The C70270 is suited for drilling alloy steel and aluminum in screw machine, CNC, and manual drill press environments. Its shorter overall length compared to jobber-length bits provides increased rigidity, which reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy in close-tolerance work. The 2-flute spiral design with a 1-3/4-inch flute length handles a range of material thicknesses common in production machining. This bit is a heavy-duty grade tool rated to ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C specification, making it appropriate for shops with strict tooling standards.
Designed for use in screw machines, CNC lathes, drill presses, and manual machine setups where a straight-cylindrical shank bit in the 0.3500 to 0.4000-inch diameter range is required. Primary workpiece materials are alloy steel and aluminum.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered off and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck and tighten with a chuck key before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for alloy steel applications to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear or chipping before each use.
