The CLEVELAND C70268 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-clearance drilling applications. Built to Series 2330 standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry that reduces walking and lowers thrust on entry. At 21/64 inch (0.3281 inch) in diameter and 2-15/16 inches overall length, it fits stub-reach drilling setups where a jobber-length bit would interfere with the workpiece or fixturing. The straight-cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks and collets. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral and two flutes. Intended for installation and service use by machinists, HVAC fabricators, plumbers, and electricians working in metal fabrication or equipment assembly.
This bit is suited for drilling into alloy steel and aluminum in production and field service environments. The screw machine length body keeps the cutting edge close to the chuck, improving rigidity and reducing deflection in short-hole work. Typical applications include drilling through sheet metal, structural steel, enclosure panels, and fittings where hole location accuracy and clean entry are required. The bright uncoated finish makes it appropriate for use with cutting fluids or dry in lower-speed setups.
Designed as a direct-fit screw machine length drill bit for standard drill chucks, collets, and drill presses accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 21/64 inch diameter range. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are alloy steel and aluminum.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill motor or press fully powered down and the chuck key clear of the chuck. Secure the shank fully seated in the chuck before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Handle uncoated HSS bits carefully — edge chipping from improper storage or contact with hardened surfaces will reduce performance on first use.
