The CLEVELAND C70264 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling operations in metal fabrication, machining, and production environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows drilling to begin without a center punch on most materials. The shorter screw machine length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drill press and CNC turret work where chatter and deflection must be minimized. This bit is sized at 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch decimal) with a diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0010 inch, which keeps holes within tight production specs.
The C70264 is intended for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in production machining settings. Its web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces thrust requirements during entry and through drilling. The 2-flute spiral design evacuates chips efficiently in both through-hole and blind-hole applications. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working with turret lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers will find this bit appropriate for their standard hole-making operations. It meets ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C standards.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit suitable for standard straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks used in turret lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers handling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using any standard drill chuck compatible with a straight-cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before production use. Ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and the machine is at a full stop before changing or seating the bit. Cutting speeds and feeds should be selected based on workpiece material hardness following standard HSS drilling tables.
