The CLEVELAND C70207 is a wire gauge size 74 jobber length drill bit engineered for precision drilling in light metals and similar materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a gold oxide coating that helps resist heat buildup during continuous use. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers the thrust required to start a hole, making it well suited for production and repetitive drilling tasks. Overall length is 1 inch, with a flute length of 0.25 inches and a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.0225 inches. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently during the cut. This bit meets NAS 907 Type J specifications and is graded heavy duty.
The C70207 is intended for use in applications where a wire gauge 74 drill is required, including small-hole work in aluminum and comparable non-ferrous or soft materials. The 0.0225-inch decimal diameter makes it a common choice for tapping prep, instrument assembly, and other precision trades. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 12. Typical users include machinists, aerospace maintenance techs, and precision sheet metal fabricators.
Designed as a jobber length wire gauge drill bit suitable for use in standard drill chucks, CNC spindles, and hand drills accommodating a 0.0225-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary recommended workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
Installation and use of small-diameter drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with precision drilling operations. Ensure the drill chuck is properly tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage at this diameter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant compatible with the workpiece material to extend bit life. Bits of this diameter are fragile and should not be subjected to lateral force or excessive feed pressure.
