The CLEVELAND C70196 is a wire gauge size 63 jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in trade and industrial applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and enables fast engagement without a center punch. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.0370-inch diameter, it is sized for close-tolerance work where consistency matters. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently during operation. Licensed trades and machinists working in tight-tolerance environments will find this bit well-suited to production drilling tasks.
The C70196 is rated for primary use in aluminum and other non-ferrous materials, though its M42 cobalt construction supports use in tougher workpiece materials as well. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. The 5/8-inch flute length provides adequate chip evacuation for the bit diameter. This is a single-piece unit sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 12 units per order. It conforms to NAS 907 Type J standards, making it appropriate for aerospace and precision manufacturing environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard jobber length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0370-inch straight-cylindrical shank, suitable for benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles configured for wire gauge tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with small-diameter tooling. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully tightened before operation to prevent bit slippage, which can cause bit breakage at this diameter. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling metals to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance.
