The CLEVELAND C70183 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers heat and wear resistance beyond standard HSS tooling. It measures 2 inches in overall length with a 1-inch flute length and cuts a 0.0700-inch diameter hole. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at entry. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently, and the straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This is a heavy-duty grade bit suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or field environments.
The C70183 is rated for use in aluminum as its primary workpiece material, making it a practical choice for HVAC sheet metal work, electrical panel fabrication, plumbing fixture mounting, and general mechanical assembly. The gold oxide finish reduces friction during cutting, which extends tool life in repetitive drilling cycles. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration further reduces cutting resistance, particularly in softer non-ferrous metals. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 12 units per order.
Designed as a jobber length drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks accepting a 0.0700-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification. Conforms to NAS 907 Type J standards.
Install in a calibrated drill press or handheld drill with a chuck rated for the 0.0700-inch shank diameter. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement and bit breakage at this small diameter. Apply cutting fluid when drilling production volumes to maintain bit temperature and extend tool life. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use, as cobalt bits at small diameters are susceptible to breakage under lateral load.
