The CLEVELAND C70176 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 43, with a decimal diameter of 0.0890 inches and an overall length of 2.25 inches. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit is engineered for heavy-duty drilling applications where heat and wear resistance are critical. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1.0000 inch in length, making it compatible with standard drill chucks. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals working with non-ferrous and ferrous materials will find this bit suitable for production and maintenance drilling alike.
This bit is rated for aluminum as its primary workpiece material but is capable in a broad range of applications due to the M42 cobalt substrate. With a flute length of 1.25 inches and a regular spiral flute configuration, it clears chips efficiently in shallow to moderate-depth holes. A tapered, web-thinned web construction further reduces cutting resistance. This is a single-unit package; note that the minimum order quantity is 12 units per order. The bit meets NAS 907 Type J standards, making it suitable for aerospace maintenance, industrial fabrication, and general mechanical service work.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0890-inch shank diameter; primary workpiece material rating is aluminum, per Series 2213 design specifications.
This drill bit is installed by machinists and maintenance mechanics using standard keyed or keyless drill chucks. Ensure the chuck and spindle are fully secured before operation and that the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling production volumes, particularly in harder alloys, to preserve bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit when diameter tolerance cannot be maintained within the rated range of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches.
