Product Description

The CLEVELAND C70146 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 13 (0.1850 inches), ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at entry, making it well suited for production drilling in harder or abrasive workpiece materials. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge. Two spiral flutes run along a 2-5/16-inch flute length, and the straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1850 inches in diameter over a 1.1875-inch shank length. Overall length is 3.5 inches. Built to NAS 907 Type J standards, this is a heavy-duty bit intended for shops and service technicians drilling aluminum and similar materials repeatedly.

The C70146 is sized for wire gauge 13 applications where a standard jobber-length bit is the correct reach. Primary workpiece material is aluminum, though the M42 cobalt grade handles a broader range of metals encountered in field and shop work. The right-hand cut, regular spiral, and split-point geometry make this bit a practical choice for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople drilling sheet metal, structural aluminum, and light steel during mechanical installations. The bit ships individually and is sold as a single unit with no minimum beyond one piece.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt HSS construction provides heat and wear resistance beyond standard HSS bits
  • 135-degree split point reduces drill walk and cutting thrust at entry
  • Gold oxide coating adds surface lubricity and corrosion resistance
  • Web-thinned, tapered web improves chip flow and reduces heat at the cutting zone
  • Built to NAS 907 Type J specification for heavy-duty drilling applications
  • Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw keyed and keyless drill chucks

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit fitting any standard drill chuck that accepts a 0.1850-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including benchtop drill presses, right-angle drills, and cordless or corded hand drills commonly used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work.

Installation Notes

Installation of this bit requires inserting the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a compatible chuck and tightening securely before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Use cutting fluid or a compatible lubricant when drilling aluminum or steel to extend bit life and improve cut quality. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace any bit showing chipping or heat discoloration at the tip.
