The CLEVELAND C70099 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers the heat and wear resistance required when cutting through tough materials including aluminum, alloy steels, and stainless. The bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows faster penetration without a center punch. A gold oxide coating provides additional lubricity and surface hardness. The overall length is 3.39 inches with a 2.047-inch flute length, making it well-suited for standard bench drill press and handheld drill work in fabrication and field service environments.
This drill bit is used in light industrial, manufacturing, and trade environments where precision hole drilling is required. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks without adapters. The right-hand spiral flute configuration handles chip evacuation efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Primary workpiece material listed by the manufacturer is aluminum, though the M42 cobalt grade handles a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials common in HVAC fabrication, electrical panel work, and plumbing rough-in tasks.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit with a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2047 inches, compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting that shank size. Fits drills in the Series 2213 product family from CLEVELAND.
A licensed machinist, electrician, or qualified tradesperson should select the appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the workpiece material before drilling. Ensure the drill bit is fully seated and the chuck is tightened securely before operation. Use cutting fluid or a suitable coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerances. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace if chipping or rounding is present.
