The CLEVELAND C70092 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical trade work. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide finish, it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life when cutting through hard or abrasive materials. The 4.5 mm (0.1772 inch) diameter bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on flat stock. Overall length is 3.15 inches with a 1.85-inch flute length, keeping the tool compact and rigid for accurate hole placement.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum and similar non-ferrous or light ferrous materials in both shop and field applications. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, making it practical for portable drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment. The regular spiral flute and web-thinned, tapered web geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. It meets NAS 907 Type J standards, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent MRO work as well as general mechanical and HVAC sheet-metal tasks where precision hole sizing matters.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or standard-stock drill bit for use in applications requiring a 4.5 mm hole diameter; fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1772-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists, HVAC sheet-metal technicians, pipefitters, and general mechanical tradespeople using standard drill chucks or collet-style toolholders. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before energizing the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on ferrous materials to preserve edge life, noting this bit does not support through-spindle coolant. Operate at feed rates and speeds appropriate for the workpiece material to avoid overheating the cutting edge.
