The CLEVELAND C70045 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and self-centers on contact, minimizing the need for a center punch. A gold oxide coating provides additional lubricity and corrosion resistance. At 4.5 inches overall length with a 3.1875-inch flute, this bit suits a wide range of production and maintenance drilling tasks. Two spiral flutes with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation.
This bit is designed for drilling aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, though M42 cobalt construction also handles harder ferrous alloys, stainless steel, and tough exotic materials. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.3160 inches in diameter, making it compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet holders across benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and handheld power drills. It is suited for job shop, MRO, aerospace fabrication, and general metalworking environments where consistent hole quality and tool longevity are priorities. The bit meets NAS 907 Type J specification, making it applicable in aerospace and defense manufacturing contexts.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or production bit for use with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.3160-inch straight cylindrical shank. Series 2213 per Cleveland specification.
Install and remove this bit only with the drill fully powered off and, where applicable, the machine locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck to the full depth of the chuck jaws to prevent slippage under load. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges and split point before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
