The CLEVELAND C70040 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and thrust on entry. The gold oxide coating provides lubricity and surface protection during high-heat cutting cycles. The bit measures 7.04 mm (0.2770 inches) in diameter with a 4-1/8-inch overall length and a 2-7/8-inch flute length. Its web-thinned, tapered web construction improves chip clearance and reduces cutting resistance in demanding materials. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians rely on this type of bit for precision hole-making in production and field environments.
The C70040 is rated for use in aluminum as its primary workpiece material and is well-suited for applications requiring tight tolerances and consistent hole quality. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.2770-inch shank diameter accepts standard drill chucks without modification. Its right-hand spiral flute geometry and regular spiral type make it compatible with conventional drill press, CNC, and handheld drill setups. This bit conforms to NAS 907 Type J standards, making it appropriate for aerospace and precision manufacturing specifications where certified tooling is required.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit for use in standard drill chucks, drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment accepting a 0.2770-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by machinists or qualified maintenance technicians familiar with proper drill press or CNC operating procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous or hard materials to preserve coating life and edge integrity. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if damage is observed.
