The CLEVELAND C70031 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in industrial and trade environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a gold oxide coating that improves lubricity and wear resistance during high-heat drilling cycles. The bit features a 135-degree split point for fast self-centering penetration with reduced walking on entry, and a web-thinned, tapered web construction that lowers thrust requirements. At 6 inches overall length with a 4.5-inch spiral flute, this is a standard jobber-length format suited to drill presses, hand drills, and CNC setups alike. Licensed machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This bit is rated for use in aluminum as its primary workpiece material and meets NAS 907 Type J specification, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent and heavy-duty industrial work. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.5000 inches in diameter, fitting standard 1/2-inch chuck equipment. The regular spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole drilling in soft-to-medium metals. It is part of CLEVELAND Series 2213, a heavy-duty cobalt line built for production environments where tool life under high-speed and high-feed conditions is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or production-supply drill bit for use with any drill press, hand drill, or CNC spindle equipped with a 1/2-inch or larger chuck. Rated for aluminum as the primary workpiece material per NAS 907 Type J. Fits CLEVELAND Series 2213 tooling programs.
Installation is performed by machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, or qualified trade professionals using standard drill press or hand-drill equipment. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before powering the tool. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended drilling cycles, particularly in ferrous or hard-alloy materials, to preserve coating integrity and edge life. Dispose of worn bits in accordance with local shop safety and sharps-handling procedures.
