The CLEVELAND C70022 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers extended tool life when cutting through aluminum, stainless steel, and other tough alloys. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cutting pressure at startup, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials. At 4-7/8 inches overall length with a 3-1/2 inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length chucks and drill presses used in industrial and trade shop environments. Meets NAS 907 Type J specification.
This bit is suited for metalworking professionals, maintenance machinists, HVAC fabricators, and pipefitters who drill through aluminum, ferrous metals, and high-strength alloys in production or field conditions. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment. The regular spiral flute promotes chip evacuation during through-hole and deep drilling operations. The 23/64-inch diameter fills a common size requirement between letter and fractional drill sets.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank; primary workpiece material rating is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or skilled tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in a calibrated three-jaw chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols when operating drill presses or handheld power drills. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool wear or breakage.
