The CLEVELAND C70012 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling applications in metalworking and fabrication environments. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, this bit delivers heat resistance and edge retention well beyond standard high-speed steel tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and walking at the start of a cut, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials. The gold oxide finish provides additional lubricity and corrosion resistance during service. With a 3-5/8-inch overall length and a 2-7/16-inch flute length, the C70012 fits standard drill chucks and handles typical through-hole depths in plate and structural stock.
This drill bit is engineered for use on aluminum, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other tough alloys that generate elevated cutting heat. It suits CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand drills used in manufacturing, HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in, and general trade work where a durable, precision-ground bit is required. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently to reduce clogging and heat buildup during production runs. Conformance to NAS 907 Type J makes it a recognized specification choice for aerospace and industrial procurement.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber length drill bit for standard straight-shank drill chucks; the 13/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank seats in 3/8-inch or larger keyed and keyless chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, tool and die tradespeople, or experienced trade professionals familiar with proper cutting speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck jaws are fully tightened to prevent bit slippage. Do not run cobalt drill bits at speeds rated only for standard HSS tooling without adjusting feed rate accordingly, as improper speeds accelerate edge wear. Cutting fluid or mist coolant is recommended for extended production use even though this bit is not coolant-through rated.
