The CLEVELAND C70011 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers extended tool life when cutting through hard or abrasive materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry, allowing accurate positioning without a center punch on most surfaces. At 3.5 inches overall length with a 2.3125-inch flute, it fits standard drill chucks and magnetic drill setups used across mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing trades.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum and other metals encountered in light commercial and residential trade work. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in 3-jaw chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and mag-base units. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes consistent chip evacuation in through-hole drilling. It meets NAS 907 Type J standards, making it a reliable choice for contractors and tradespeople who require dimensional consistency across a job.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit with a 3/16-inch straight cylindrical shank, compatible with any 3-jaw drill chuck accepting that shank diameter, including handheld drills and bench-mounted drill presses. Primary workpiece material is aluminum; suitable for other non-ferrous and ferrous metals within the capability range of M42 cobalt tooling.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed prior to starting the drill. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to reduce heat buildup and extend bit life. Wear eye protection and secure the workpiece with a clamp or vise — never hold the workpiece by hand during drilling. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use; a dull cobalt bit generates excess heat that can work-harden the base material.
