The CLEVELAND C70009 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metal, aluminum, and other demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt steel with a gold oxide coating, it resists heat buildup and edge wear during high-speed or production drilling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start the hole, making it faster to use without a center punch on most flat surfaces. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. This bit is a heavy-duty option well-suited to maintenance technicians, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, and machinists who drill frequently into harder alloys.
The C70009 is sized at 5/32 inches (0.1562 inches decimal) and is built to NAS 907 Type J specification, which establishes dimensional and tolerance standards for jobber-length drill bits used in aerospace and industrial applications. It is a practical choice for drilling aluminum, steel, and stainless where extended bit life and consistent hole quality are required. The regular spiral flute with web-thinning keeps chip evacuation efficient throughout the full 2-inch flute length. Primary workpiece material listed by the manufacturer is aluminum, though the M42 cobalt grade handles a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any three-jaw drill chuck or collet system accepting a 5/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Fits corded and cordless drill drivers, drill presses, and CNC spindles configured for that shank diameter.
Installation and use should follow standard machine shop or field drilling practices. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel or stainless to preserve edge life, noting that this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the shank is fully seated before applying feed pressure. Dispose of worn bits properly — do not attempt to regrind cobalt bits without proper toolroom equipment.
