The CLEVELAND C64062 is a standard pipe tap designed to cut NPTF (National Pipe Taper Fuel) internal threads in a 3/8-18 thread size. It is built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish and features 4 flutes for efficient chip evacuation during tapping operations. The tap measures 2.563 inches overall length with a thread length of 1.063 inches. It is used by machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, and HVAC technicians to create leak-resistant tapered pipe threads in drilled holes across a range of metallic workpieces.
This tap is suited for threading applications in non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, as well as steel. It is a common tool in fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service environments where pipe fittings, hydraulic ports, or pneumatic connections require cut NPTF threads. The 3/8-18 designation means 3/8 inch nominal pipe size at 18 threads per inch, a standard size encountered frequently in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use pipe tap for any application requiring 3/8-18 NPTF internal threads in non-ferrous metals including aluminum and in steel workpieces.
This tap is installed by a machinist or pipefitter using a tap wrench, drill press, or tapping machine sized to the 0.700 inch shank. Always drill the correct tap drill size before tapping and apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning the tapping operation, and back the tap out periodically to clear chips. Follow applicable shop safety practices and OSHA general industry standards when operating cutting tools.
