The CLEVELAND C64060 is a standard NPTF pipe tap designed to cut 1/8-27 tapered pipe threads in metal workpieces. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it produces the tight, pressure-tight thread form required by NPTF specifications. With 4 flutes and a regular hook geometry, it provides efficient chip evacuation during cutting. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a 0.75-inch thread length, making it a compact, purpose-built tool for pipe thread work in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians use this tap where reliable fluid-sealing threads are required.
This tap is suited for threading 1/8-27 NPTF pipe connections in non-ferrous metals including aluminum, as well as steel. Typical applications include creating threaded ports in manifolds, valve bodies, fittings, and hydraulic or pneumatic components where a pressure-tight seal without sealant tape is the goal. The 4-flute design handles both through and blind pipe thread applications in moderate-depth holes common to trade and industrial settings.
Designed as a standard NPTF pipe tap for use in hand tapping, drill press, and CNC tapping applications requiring 1/8-27 tapered pipe thread in aluminum and steel workpieces.
This tap is installed by machinists or pipefitters using a properly sized tap wrench or machine tap holder rated for the shank diameter. Always use a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Start the tap square to the hole to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Follow applicable shop safety procedures when operating tapping equipment.
