The CLEVELAND C59223 is a plug chamfer thread forming tap designed for creating internal 6-32 UNC threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger threads with a burnished finish. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap is suited for use in steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals. It carries an H5 thread limit designation, indicating a tight tolerance class appropriate for precision fastener applications. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical trades regularly use taps of this type when fabricating or repairing threaded connections in sheet metal panels, brackets, and equipment housings.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in materials including steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals. The plug chamfer style, with 3 to 5 chamfered threads, makes it well suited for through holes where the tap can be driven completely through the workpiece. The 6-32 UNC thread size is common in electrical enclosures, HVAC control panels, and light mechanical assemblies, making this tap a practical addition to any service technician or fabrication shop toolkit.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metal workpieces requiring a 6-32 UNC internal thread. Material application codes P, M, and N apply.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill, which differs from a standard tap drill — consult a thread forming drill chart before use. A tapping fluid or lubricant appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied before and during the tapping operation. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is started perpendicular to the hole to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Do not reverse the tap direction until the forming operation is complete through the full thread depth.
