The CLEVELAND C58909 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in metric applications. Built from high speed steel with a TICN coating, it delivers reliable thread cutting performance in demanding shop environments. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, and the 52-degree helix angle efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole. With a 2B class of fit and D5 thread limit, it produces threads suited for standard metric fastener assemblies. This tap is typically installed by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with tapping equipment or manual tap handles.
The C58909 cuts M6 x 1.00 metric threads in blind holes across a range of materials, including aluminum and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The TICN finish extends tool life when cutting harder materials by reducing friction and wear on the cutting edges. With a thread length of 0.63 inches and an overall length of 2.5 inches, it fits standard tap holders and tapping chucks used in vertical machining centers, drill presses, and hand tapping setups. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration are the standard orientation for most metric fastener threads.

This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a properly sized tap holder or tapping chuck rated for the shank diameter of 0.255 inches. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Use a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. When tapping blind holes, confirm hole depth is sufficient for the thread length plus chamfer runout to avoid bottoming the tap against the hole floor under power.
