The CLEVELAND C57452 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright finish, this tap cuts a 3/8-16 UNC right-hand thread using three flutes and a plug chamfer. It carries an H3 thread limit and a Class 3B fit, making it appropriate for standard-tolerance threaded holes. The plug chamfer allows gradual entry and is well suited to through-hole work where the tap can pass fully through the material. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers of this tool.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in ferrous metals including alloy steel, cast iron, high carbon steel, and tool steel. Its 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action, keeping the flutes clear during the cut. The Series 1053 designation places it within a standard production tap family used on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual tapping fixtures in job shop and production environments.

This tap is installed and operated by machinists and maintenance mechanics using a drill press, tapping head, CNC machine, or manual tap wrench. Always drill the correct tap drill diameter for 3/8-16 UNC before tapping and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate cutting oil or tapping fluid to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse the tap under power without a reversing tapping head, and do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly.
