The CLEVELAND C57232 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high speed steel with a bright finish, it cuts a 5/8-11 UNC thread profile with a right-hand direction and a 2B class of fit. The 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap as it advances, keeping the flute area clear and reducing the risk of chip packing in production or maintenance threading operations. This tap carries an H5 thread limit for controlled tolerance output. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals working on through-hole applications across a range of base materials.
The C57232 is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum — common material groups encountered in general manufacturing, fabrication shops, and industrial maintenance environments. The plug chamfer (3-5 threads) makes it suited for through-hole work where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. It is not intended for blind-hole applications where a bottoming tap would be required. The 3-13/16 inch overall length provides enough reach for standard machine tapping setups and hand tapping with a tap wrench.

Tapping operations should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using a calibrated tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine with appropriate spindle speed for the material and tap size. Apply cutting fluid rated for the base material before and during the tapping operation to reduce heat buildup and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning to prevent movement during thread cutting. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use — a damaged tap should not be returned to service.
