The CLEVELAND C57128 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It cuts a 1/4-20 UNC thread profile with a plug chamfer, which progressively engages the workpiece for clean thread formation. Built from high speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum in production and maintenance machining environments. The H2 thread limit and 2B class of fit make it suited for standard tolerance threaded fastener applications. With 2 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it pushes chips forward through the hole, keeping the flutes clear during cutting.
This tap is used in through-hole threading operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines, as well as hand-tapping setups on the bench. It is appropriate for general-purpose work in metalworking shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing environments where 1/4-20 UNC threads are a common fastener standard. The plug chamfer style makes it a practical choice when starting threads from the face of a workpiece rather than a blind hole application.
