The CLEVELAND C57127 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand through-hole threading in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this plug chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well-suited for threading through-holes where chip evacuation is a priority. It is sized for 1/4-20 UNC threads, carries a Class 2B fit tolerance, and is ground to an H1 thread limit for consistent dimensional accuracy. With a 2-flute geometry and plug chamfer, it provides a balance of cutting efficiency and thread quality on production and maintenance work alike.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces. The 1/4-20 UNC specification makes it a common choice for machine assembly, structural fastener tapping, and general fabrication tasks. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working on HVAC brackets, electrical enclosures, equipment frames, and similar threaded fastener applications. The 2B class of fit is the standard tolerance for most industrial and commercial thread applications.
Designed for through-hole threading of 1/4-20 UNC threads in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap handles, T-handle wrenches, and CNC or drill press tapping attachments that accept a 0.255 inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tap guide, or motorized tapping attachment. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before beginning the cut to avoid thread misalignment or tap breakage. Back the tap out periodically during hand tapping to break the chip and clear the flutes.
