The CLEVELAND C57076 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in machine and hand tapping applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright finish, this tap cuts a 6-40 UNF right-hand thread and is rated for tolerance class H2 with a 2B/3B fit. The 2-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for through-hole work where chip evacuation is critical. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in for smooth thread starting. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 0.38 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches.
This tap is intended for threading through-holes in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. It is a standard production tap suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations where a 6-40 UNF thread form is required. The compact size and standard shank make it compatible with common tap holders and collet chucks used in light machining and precision assembly work.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Fits standard tap holders and collet chucks sized for a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician familiar with tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before starting. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Never reverse a spiral point tap while chips are present in the hole, as this can cause breakage.
