The CLEVELAND C57022 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in metalworking applications. It cuts a 1-64 UNC thread profile using a 2-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, reducing clogging and improving thread quality in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright finish, the C57022 delivers reliable performance in production and maintenance threading tasks. The H2 thread limit and Class 2B fit designation make it suitable for standard tolerance threaded assemblies. Overall length is 1.688 inches with a thread length of 0.380 inches.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces. The 1-64 UNC thread size is common in small fastener applications found in precision assemblies, instrumentation, and light mechanical components. It is typically used in machine tapping operations on drill presses, CNC machining centers, or tapping heads, as well as hand tapping where controlled feed is maintained. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it practical for both new threading and repair work in through-hole configurations.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Compatible with standard tapping chucks, collet holders, and reversing tapping heads that accept a 0.141-inch shank diameter. Series 1011.
Tapping operations should be performed by a machinist or qualified trade professional using appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole to avoid tap breakage at this small diameter. Do not exceed recommended tapping speeds for the workpiece material, and back the tap off periodically to break chips when hand tapping. Consult the tap manufacturer drill size chart to confirm the correct pilot hole diameter for a 1-64 UNC thread before starting.
