The CLEVELAND C56028 is a 5/8-11 UNC straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in ferrous and hard materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a plug chamfer for use in both through-hole and blind-hole threading applications. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry provides stability and chip control during manual tapping operations. With a thread length of 1.09 inches and an overall length of 3.813 inches, this tap fits standard tap wrenches and is sized for production and maintenance threading work. It carries a Class 2B fit and H3 thread limit for controlled tolerance output. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in job shop and field service settings.
The C56028 is suited for threading operations in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it appropriate as a starting tap for through-holes or as the primary tap in blind holes with adequate thread runout clearance. The straight-flute design performs best when chips can be managed manually or with cutting fluid. This tap is part of the Cleveland Series 1002BO and is intended for hand tapping applications where torque is applied through a standard tap wrench.
Designed for hand tapping applications in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces requiring a 5/8-11 UNC Class 2B right-hand internal thread. Part of the Cleveland Series 1002BO.
This tap is intended for manual operation using a standard tap wrench — do not use in a power driver without verifying the drive configuration. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before starting. Ensure the tap enters the hole square to the workpiece surface to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. Follow applicable shop safety practices when working with cutting tools.
