The CLEVELAND C55682 is a standard NPTF pipe tap designed to cut tapered pipe threads in ferrous metals and alloy materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it produces a 1/8-27 thread form meeting National Pipe Taper Fuel (NPTF) standards for pressure-tight, dry-seal connections. The 4-flute geometry provides balanced cutting action and chip clearance in short-chipping materials. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a thread length of 0.75 inches, this tap is sized for compact pipe fitting applications. It is used by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and machining trades when threading ports, fittings, and manifold bodies.
This tap is suited for threading 1/8-27 NPTF connections in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. Typical applications include threading sensor ports, pressure tap locations, valve bodies, and hydraulic or pneumatic manifold entries where a pressure-tight pipe thread is required. The TiN finish reduces friction during cutting and extends tool life compared to uncoated HSS. It is appropriate for both production and maintenance tapping operations across HVAC, plumbing, and industrial service environments.
Designed for tapping 1/8-27 NPTF pipe threads in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders and machine spindles accepting a 0.4375-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists, pipefitters, or HVAC and plumbing technicians using a standard tap wrench or machine tapping head. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped, and ensure the starting hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 1/8-27 NPTF before threading. De-energize and depressurize any system before tapping into live assemblies. Follow applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines for thread engagement depth on pressure-rated connections.
